Child's Construction

Remember that each child must construct himself – the adult is there to aid the process but cannot make the construction for the child, even through coercion.

No person can do this for any human being – every development must be one’s own decision and work.

What does this mean for us adults?

  • Provide the physical tools the child needs.
  • Provide the emotional and intellectual tools the child needs.
  • Essentially: Be supportive; provide the environment with only the acceptable options and all the acceptable options.
  • Encourage the child to take appropriate risks in a safe environment.
